Pine University encompasses our wide array of clinics and outings offered year round at Pine Mountain Sports. For those who are interested in getting outdoors and on the trails by way of mountain bike or skis – we’d love to help get you started on Your Path to Higher Level Recreation.

SKI WAX CLINIC – FREE

Our hot waxing clinic will cover the basics on how to tune and wax your skis at home. Glide waxing techniques in this clinic can be applied to all types of skis and snowboards. And yes, your “wax-less” XC skis still need wax on the tips and tails. Even if you have no intention of doing your own ski waxing, this clinic will give the knowledge you need to make sure your skis are maintained and performing at their best. TUESDAY NIGHT SKATE SKI – FREE

Perfect for skate skiers who are looking for weekly motivation to ski at night after work. Meet at Pine Mountain Sports by 6pm. We will carpool to Meissner Sno-Park (or Bachelor if needed), split into faster and slower groups, and ski for 90 minutes. Skate skiers of all abilities are welcome. Dress warm and bring a bright headlamp and a few dollars for the grooming donation box. Skate ski demos are free for the evening on a first-come, first-served basis. BEGIN TO SKIN: BC 101 IN-STORE CLINIC – FREE

Ready to skip the lifts and earn your turns? A backcountry ski or splitboard lets you make tracks uphill as well as down. This clinic is tailored to backcountry beginners. We’ll discuss equipment basics from Tele to AT to splitboards as well as how to use climbing skins. We’ll share clothing secrets to keep you cool when climbing and warm when descending, and examine ways to efficiently pack your gear. Learn why having fun and being smart in the backcountry goes hand in hand with your awareness of snow safety. RSVP required as space is limited. Call 541-385-8080 to register.

 

BEGIN TO SKIN: BC 101 GUIDED BACKCOUNTRY SKI OUTING – $90.00

SUNDAY 9A (Meeting at 3-Creeks Sno-Park)
This is the perfect first day-long outing for any aspiring backcountry skier or split boarder. We will carpool from the store to a quiet backcountry ski spot in the Central Oregon Cascades. This learning opportunity with a professional guide service will give participants a comfortable introduction to the basics of touring and climbing, snow safety, skinning up, and skiing or split boarding down some beginning and intermediate runs. We will meet at Three Creeks Sno-Park at 9AM (allow 1 hour drive time from Bend). RSVP and pre-payment of $90 is required. Pack a lunch, as it’ll be a full day. Registrants will receive an email with required gear to bring. Shovels, probes and beacons required but also available for rent. We maintain a ratio of 6 people per AIARE certified instructor. Join us for a moonlight XC ski outing on the trails at Swampy or Meissner Sno-Park. Depart from the store at 6P* (DEPARTS 7:30P ON MAR 23). We will carpool to the Sno-Park and decide on our destination based on the wants of the group. Please be prepared by dressing WARM, bringing food and water, at least one headlamp, and a few dollars for the grooming donation box. XC ski demos are free for the evening on a first-come, first-served basis. DIRT DIVAS WOMEN’S MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDES – FREE

Each group will have a ride leader and a designated sweep. Each group will decide its route and ride time based on the needs of the group. Riders in your group will wait for each other and regroup at each trail intersection. All ages and skill levels are welcome and nobody is left behind. Trek and Santa Cruz mountain bike demos are free for the evening on a first-come, first-served basis. DIRT DIVAS NIGHTS: IN-STORE CLINICS – FREE

In addition to our Dirt Divas women’s mountain bike rides Pine Mountain Sports Dirt Divas events cover all facets of mountain biking with a variety of free monthly events and specialized clinics. April 24: Mountain Biking 101
This evening is designed as an introductory informational session for women who want to know more about mountain biking, or are looking to feel more confident discussing mountain bikes in the shop. We’ll cover topics including different bikes, our trail system and proper trail etiquette.

May 26: Juli Furtado presents My Life in the Bike World
Mountain bike legend Juli Furtado (who has the Santa Cruz Juliana named after her!) from Santa Cruz Bicycles is sharing her My Life in the Bike World presentation and answering your questions at Pine Mountain Sports. Juli will also be leading a ride at Phil’s Trailhead earlier in the day. Ride details to come.

May 28: Hands-On Bike Maintenance
Bring your bike and learn how to keep it running smoothly! Learn how to clean and take care of your bike between rides, repair a broken chain on the trail, and how to fix a flat tire. This popular clinic is taught on the lawn at Pine Mountain Sports. Repeats on July 31.

May 29: Gear Night
Gear Night with Tori from Trek Bicycles. We’ll be discussing kit from head to toe. Special guests to be announced.

June 26: Boost Your Ride
Boost your ride by learning tips and tricks for healthy nutrition, mental and physical endurance, injury recovery and training. We’ll have a gust speaker from Hammer Nutrition answering your questions about what to drink and eat (and avoid) when riding. RSVP required.

July 24: Getting  to Know Your Bike
I love my new bike, but what are all these knobs, buttons and levers for? We’ll focus on suspension setup, shifting and brake adjustment, and dialing in all of these cool features.

July 31: Hands-On Bike Maintenance (repeat of May 28)
Bring your bike and learn how to keep it running smoothly! Learn how to clean and take care of your bike between rides, repair a broken chain on the trail, and how to fix a flat tire. This popular clinic is taught on the lawn at Pine Mountain Sports.

Sept 25: Cold Weather Biking
Tips on how to make the bike season last longer with a discussion on cold-weather accessories, layering and night riding. Presented by renowned local racer and rider, Lindsey Voreis.

Join us on the lawn at Pine Mountain Sports to celebrate another great Dirt Diva season with a lot of scrumptious food, great company and some raffle prizes.

 

GRIT CLINICS WOMEN’S RIDING CLINICS – $ 250

Grit Clinics are a two-day, on-the-bike mountain bike skills clinic for women only, taught by the local women of GritClinics.com. Grit Clinics’ mission is to provide supportive coaching to beginner and intermediate mountain bikers.  Their goal is to increase your confidence on the trail with improved and refined bike handling skills. BICYCLE REPAIR CLINIC, BEGINNING – FREE

Being able to repair you mountain bike on the trail will keep you safe and confident on long rides. The beginners clinic is taught in the workshop after hours and will cover will cover the basics including flat tire repairs, caring for your chain, and basic maintenance. BICYCLE REPAIR CLINIC, ADVANCED – FREE

Building on the foundation of our beginning bicycle repair clinic, the advanced clinic is taught in the workshop after hours and will cover adjustments and maintenance starting with derailleurs and disc brakes.
