RIDE THE DIVIDE
Old. St Francis School Theater – Bend, OR
9:00 p.m. | $5 per person, cash only | 21 & over

The world’s toughest bike race is not in France.

Pine Mountain Sports brings you an encore screening of Ride The Divide. This inspiring film follows the world’s toughest mountain bike race, which traverses over 2700 miles along the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains.

The film weaves the story of three characters’ experiences with immense mountain beauty and small-town culture as they attempt to pedal from Banff, Canada to a small, dusty crossing on the Mexican border.

All experience mental breakdowns, treacherous snow, hellacious blisters, and total fatigue. Above all, they race with no support at times in total isolation.

Movie Night at McMenamins raises funds and awareness for Central Oregon Trail Alliance.

SINGLETRACK HIGH
Old. St Francis School Theater – Bend, OR
9:00 p.m. | $5 per person, cash only | 21 & over

At the age of 16, many American kids trade in two wheels for four. Bikes that once gave them freedom to explore on weekends now collect dust in the garage. For a growing number of high school students in Northern California, however, two wheels don’t get dusty, they get dirty.

“SingleTrack High” follows a diverse group of students through the 2012 mountain bike racing season in the NorCal High School Cycling League. For Eliel, high school bike racing is a competitive outlet at the highest level. For Carlos, it is a means to escape the rough neighborhoods of South Sacramento. For Mackinzie and Allie, it is a chance to break into a sport traditionally dominated by the boys. These are some of the kids of “SingleTrack High,” Through their experiences, the film explores the positive impact high school mountain biking can have on boys and girls alike, from all walks of life.

Movie Night at McMenamins usually raises funds and awareness for Central Oregon Trail Alliance. This month COTA will be donating all proceeds from the door to the National Interscholastic Cycling Association.

NOTE: While NICA is doing amazing things for high school students in California their program may not be ideal for other areas. Closer to home, the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association is working hard to make bicycle racing accessible to kids age 10 and up. Here’s a link to info on their very popular Oregon Junior Cyclocross Series.

THE ROAD UPHILL
Old. St Francis School Theater – Bend, OR
9:00 p.m. | $5 per person, cash only | 21 & over

Andy Schleck has been in the road cycling news lately for all the wrong reasons. After coming in second at the 2010 Tour de France he’s struggled to match that result. His 2012/13 season has been marred with some public meltdowns and some disappointing DNF’s.

In 2011 he starred in a German film called The Road Uphill…

The Road Uphill premiered in Luxembourg, Germany to rave reviews and despite being one of the most beautiful TDF cycling films since Chasing Legends – it suddenly disappeared. A undisclosed source close the the film project says that RadioSack-Nissan Trek manager Johan Bruyneel had the film buried. Apparently, the Belgium mastermind decided the film was about Andy Schleck taking second place and claimed that second place in the Tour was nothing to be proud of.

We’d disagree, and are super-excited to bring this rare and excellent film to COTA Movie Night in April.

Starring the Schleck Brothers, Fabian Cancellara, Jens Voigt, Stuart O’Grady, and the late Wouter Weylandt.

BIKE CAR
Old. St Francis School Theater – Bend, OR
9:00 p.m. | $5 per person, cash only | 21 & over

It’s a cycling film! It’s a snowboard flick! It’s both, actually. Come join the folks from Aspect Board Shop and Pine Mountain Sports for Bike Car, one of the most entertaining action sports films we’ve seen.

Pro snowboarders Travis Parker, Louie Fountain, and Scotty Wittlake put all of our lame-SUV-driving-asses to shame by building and pedaling their four-passenger Bike Car around the Northwest in search of snow. Their road trip has them pedaling thru all kinds of weather and pulling a trailer full of snowboards across three states as they visit four different ski areas including Mt. Bachelor.

LIFE CYCLES
Old. St Francis School Theater
9:00 p.m. | $5 per person, cash only | 21 & over

Voted as the Best Mountain Bike Film of all time by readers of Pinkbike.com, Life Cycles mixes some of the best cinematography and imagery in any mountain bike film and mixes that with the raw emotion that comes with the bond between man and machine.

Winning Best Cinematography, Best Director and Best Film at the 2011 X-Dance Film Festival, Life Cycles exhibits a paradigm shift in the way mountain bike movies are made. Every scene offers an explosion of color, a lack of color, a thought provoking idea, and then it’s visually stunning again. Some of the visuals and the concept of the film may be a little over-reaching, but the cinematography is truly awesome.

Movie Night at McMenamins raises funds and awareness for Central Oregon Trail Alliance. A big thank you to Derek and the crew of Life Cycles for supporting COTA with their permission to screen their film!
